Healthcare

Okta provides comprehensive medical, dental, and vision benefits at no cost* to you and your dependents through Manulife. Employees will be automatically enrolled with employee-only coverage and can waive health and dental coverage with proof of coverage. Eligible dependents can be added as part of the new hire enrollment process in the Manulife portal. You’ll also find resources to help you stay healthy and take action to improve your health.

*Note on benefits taxation: As a participant in Okta’s benefits plans, you are subject to taxable income as required by the Canada Revenue Agency. As part of this requirement, Okta is required to report any employer paid benefit premiums that you participate in as taxable income on your paycheck. All provinces are taxed for life and AD&D; additionally for residents in Quebec the taxation also includes paid premiums for life extended health care (EHC), dental and the employee assistance plan (EAP). You can find more details about these tax laws on the Canada Revenue Agency webpage

Health care spending account: Okta also offers you a health care spending account to help pay for qualified healthcare expenses funded with CAD $300 per year (pro-rated for new hires, $300 if hired between January 1 and June 30 and $150 if hired between July 1 and December 31) for employee and/or family coverage. There is a one-year credit forward in which left over monies are added to the next year if not used; if you don’t use it, you lose it. The most common expenses are vision, dental and paramedical visits.

TELUS Health (Telemedicine)

Get access to virtual care 24/7. Once you’re signed up with TELUS Health, you can access your care plans even if you don’t have group health and/or dental benefits with Okta.

New employees: You will receive an email from Manulife within 8-10 business days from your hire date with activation and benefit enrollment instructions for your Manulife account. Coverage is effective retroactive to your hire date. Register and complete your enrollment within 31 days of your hire date.

Making changes: You have 31 days from any qualifying event to make a change to your plan without providing proof of good health. Changes will be made directly in the Manulife portal. Qualifying events are:

  • Marriage or legal union
  • Living Common Law
  • Divorce
  • Separation
  • Loss of other coverage (employee)
  • Having or adopting a child, etc

Note: You cannot make changes retroactively more than 31-days. If you would like to add your dependents after you were hired or outside of a life event, they will be treated as late applicants and you will need to submit a completed Health & Dental Evidence of Insurability form which is available on the plan member website. Please contact the Manulife Group Benefits Service Centre directly for assistance.

Registered retirement savings plan (RRSP)

Planning for and keeping track of the income you’ll have for the future starts today. You can contribute and invest your own money and receive a matching employer contribution through the RRSP, which is administered by CanadaLife.

  • Enrol online through CanadaLife and take advantage of the educational tools and resources on smartpathnow.com to learn more about retirement savings and investment concepts.
  • Okta will provide you with dollar-for-dollar RRSP match of up to 4% of your base salary pay. This means, to maximize the RRSP match from Okta, you must contribute at least 4% of your base salary pay each pay cycle. However, you can choose to contribute less. You can also contribute more, subject to the annual RRSP contribution limits set by the Canada Revenue Agency.
  • Contributions made from your bonus or commission pay are not available within the plan.
  • Withdrawal of your regular contributions and the matched contributions made on your behalf or transferring of the previous regular contributions and previous matched contributions to another financial institution while you're employed is not permitted unless required by law. Withdrawals or transfer of contributions made on a voluntary basis (the amount above the matching percentage) is permitted at any time.

Note: Okta sponsors a group RRSP, not a Registered Pension Plan (RPP), which is registered with the Canada Revenue Agency.

You will find the following on your T4 slip:

  • Okta’s RRSP contribution is a taxable benefit to the employee and is included in box 40, it is also included in the amount in box 14.
  • You will not see amounts in box 20 and/or box 52 because they represent contributions to an RPP.

You can find detailed plan information in the Canada Life TFSA Plan.

To learn more about how you can optimize your RRSP, watch the "Get on track, stay on track" webinar.

Available March 1, 2024: Tax-free savings account (TFSA)

The tax-free savings account (TFSA) is a way for you to set money aside tax-free. Contributions to a TFSA are not deductible for income tax purposes, and any amount contributed, as well as any income earned in the account (for example, investment income and capital gains), is generally tax-free, even when it is withdrawn. Administrative or other fees in relation to TFSA and any interest or money borrowed to contribute to a TFSA are not tax deductible.

  • If you are a new hire after March 1, 2024, you will be able to use a guest access ID and password provided in the enrollment tip sheet to enroll in both the RRSP and TFSA.
  • Existing members who already have an RRSP account can log onto mycanadalifeatwork.com to enrol in the TFSA. Select Saving > Manage portfolio > Enrolment express to get started.

See the Canada Life RRSP Plan Booklet for more details.

Disability

Short-term disability

Okta provides short-term disability coverage at no cost to you that pays part of your income if you’re unable to work because of sickness or injury.

  • Your short-term disability benefit provides 70% of your pre-disability income, up to CAD 2,000 per week.
  • After a seven-day waiting period, which can be covered by floater days, coverage runs for up to 17 weeks.
  • The benefit becomes effective on the first day following an accident or on the eighth day of sickness. The benefit terminates at age 70.
Long-term disability

Okta provides a long-term disability benefit at no cost to you that replaces a portion of your income if you become fully disabled because of sickness or injury.

Coverage kicks in once short-term disability ends after 17 weeks.

Your benefit is a percentage of your pre-disability income:

  • 70% of your monthly earnings (taxable), NEL

The non-evidence maximum benefit is CAD 8,000, up to CAD 15,000 per month. If you are eligible for a higher benefit, you need to provide medical evidence of your good health.

You can receive benefits until age 65.

As part of this coverage, you are also provided with travel assistance services from AIG. Services available to you include:

To get started with your BTA insurance, please take the time to review this information:

Mobile phone and internet

Okta reimburses full-time employees for personal cell phone and internet service. A monthly maximum reimbursement amount applies. For more details, see the T&E policy on the Expenses Wiki.

You need to submit your cell phone and internet receipts for approval and reimbursement.

Okta perks

No matter where you sit in the world, our programs help to foster a sense of belonging and to reflect the communities in which we live and work.

Check out the Workplace Services Wiki to see what’s happening in your local space.

Rewards

Your base pay works together with Okta’s bonus, equity grants (aka, “long-term incentives” or “RSUs”), and employee stock purchase plan (ESPP) to provide you with a highly competitive pay and ownership opportunity. It’s how you share in the success of the company you’re helping to build and grow.

Cash incentive bonus program

How the cash incentive bonus program works

Okta sets your bonus target as a percentage of your base pay, based on your job level.

The company’s performance against pre-established objectives determines whether Okta will pay bonuses each year—there is no guarantee. Company performance objectives may include achievement of annual revenue targets, net annual recurring revenue, bookings, and EBITDA.

Long-term incentives (RSUs)

Okta’s equity grants are made in the form of Restricted Stock Units (RSUs)

RSUs are a form of equity compensation issued by Okta.

Okta grants RSUs at no cost to you.

For each grant, Okta converts the value into a number of RSUs based on the monthly average closing price of one share of Okta in the month prior to the grant.

Employee Stock Purchase Plan

You have another opportunity to benefit from the company’s growth and the shareholder value your work helps to create. By choosing to participate in the employee stock purchase plan (ESPP), eligible employees can invest directly in the company—by purchasing shares of Okta stock at a discount.

Buy shares of Okta stock twice a year and get at least a 15% discount on your shares. Eligible employees have two opportunities each year to enroll: May and November.

Questions? Go to the Okta Equity page on The Landing or email Stock@okta.com.

The ESPP may be a great investment

Through simple after-tax payroll deductions, you can purchase shares of Okta stock at a minimum 15% discount.

You decide if you’d like to participate, and how much you’d like to contribute—anywhere from 1% to 15% of your eligible pay. Certain limits apply.

Enrol online in May or November

You must enrol for the ESPP while the enrolment period is open. If you miss the window, you’ll need to wait until the next open enrolment period.

Shares are purchased twice a year on June 20 and December 20

The amount you pay for the shares is the lower of two prices—the offering date price or the purchase date price. The 15% discount is applied to the lowest of the two prices.

Once purchased, your Okta shares are yours to keep

When the purchase period ends, shares are purchased for you and are deposited into your E*TRADE account. At that point, you own your Okta shares, and you decide how long to hold them.

Everyday Wellbeing

Global wellbeing

Employee assistance program (EAP)

Okta cares about your health and happiness. But sometimes, everyone needs a little help with balancing work, family, and everything in between. That’s why we partner with Modern Health to provide incredible benefits for your holistic well-being.

Modern Health, Okta’s EAP provider, balances on-demand digital tools with virtual coaching (and therapy, if needed). You set up the approach that best meets your needs. Your family members are also covered, all at no cost to you.

How Modern Health can help you and your family

Modern Health provides support for many areas:

  • Work performance—find coaching and support to improve productivity, leadership skills, work relationships, and professional development
  • Financial well-being—for example, when your student loan debt seems to take over, or you need help with saving for an emergency and planning for future financial needs
  • Help with life challenges—like preparing for having a family, adjusting once you’re a parent, getting help with child care and elder care, and dealing with loss
  • Diversity and inclusion—to better understand and overcome bias or find balance between your personal and work identity
  • Stress and anxiety—for when even small things seem really big and scary
  • Healthy lifestyles—to help you move more, eat healthier, and sleep better
  • Mindfulness and meditation—techniques for managing stress, focusing, and meditating
  • Relationships—with your partner, friends, family, and dating

You can share Modern Health with qualified dependents. Generally, this is consistent with how your health plan defines dependents. Some examples include:

  • A legal spouse or registered domestic partner
  • A child between the ages of 6 and 26
  • A relative that resides in the same household

You will receive up to 8 therapy + 8 coaching sessions per person per calendar year, in addition to unlimited access to Modern Health digital resources, like Meditations and Soundscapes, and Community Circles.

Getting started with Modern Health

Modern Health dependent access is initiated by the employee through the app settings. They provide some basic information such as name, birthdate, and email address, and then Modern Health sends a message to them to register. In most countries it's only available to those 6+ for therapy, and 18+ for all content. Learn more about getting started with Modern Health.

Sign up! We recommend using the Modern Health app to get started, or you can register at Modern Health.

You can also access Modern Health via SSO on your mobile device. Follow these five steps:

  1. Open Okta Verify.
  2. Click on: Launch Dashboard.
  3. Select: Sign in with Okta FastPass.
  4. Search for Modern Health in Dashboard and launch it.
  5. If you THEN download and open the Modern Health app, you should be automatically authenticated.
Take a confidential well-being assessment and go from there

You’ll complete a well-being survey, and from there Modern Health will deliver your personalised wellness plan, match you with the appropriate personal coach, and provide you with personalised links to the Modern Health digital library.

Connecting on your terms

Modern Health provides you with up to eight video sessions with your coach or therapist. You also have unlimited access to your coach through text or email.

If your coach or your well-being survey indicates you have a clinical need—for example, you may suffer from depression—Modern Health will recommend a therapist to work with in addition to your dedicated coach.

As you get to the end of your covered sessions, you and your coach or therapist can work with Modern Health to determine the next steps for continuing your relationship.

24/7 counselor phone support for urgent needs

Need support now? Modern Health provides 24/7 counselor phone support for urgent needs and critical incidents, extended work-life services, manager support for workplace concerns through their EAP partner, Workplace Options (WPO). You can find more information in this flyer or through Modern Health’s FAQ

Along with your confidential sessions with your coach or therapist, you’ll have access to a variety of helpful resources, such as:

Also, check out Circles, which are community spaces to help you learn, grow, and connect across topics that impact your day-to-day life. You have unlimited access to Circles – attend as many or as few as you like. Modern Health regularly refreshes the available topics so feel free to come back if you don’t see something for you right away. You can also view videos on demand, if you can’t make it to a live Circle. Learn more about Circles
