Diversity, Inclusion + Belonging
Okta is committed to collectively nurturing a culture of equity, inclusion, and belonging in driving Okta’s values and mission to empower each other to do the best work of our careers.
We are working to:
- Lay foundations to build balanced teams.
- Support and empower employees to be authentic and grow with us.
- Create products and services that resonate with and fulfill the needs of our diverse ecosystem.
Our workplace initiatives make clear that all individuals can bring their authentic selves to work and share their voices.

Okta State of Inclusion report
Identity is at the core of everything we do at Okta.
We value what makes each individual unique. That’s why our focus on identity extends well beyond our product, to include how we hire our employees, engage our teams, structure our company, and support our community.
We are committed to diversity, inclusion, and belonging (DIB) at every level. We know that a diverse landscape of employees, partners, and customers with a broad range of perspectives is the only way we’ll be successful in building an iconic technology company. Within Okta, our DIB efforts are inclusive and driven across business units and geographies. Inclusion ensures that we have fair and equitable processes and structures that enable everyone to be their authentic self at work. Our ultimate goal is to create a sense of belonging, giving everyone the confidence and security to actively participate—because, ultimately, our differences are what make us stronger.
Check out our State of Inclusion report, in which we share an overview of our current workforce and the collective DIB efforts at Okta to create a sense of thriving, belonging, and opportunity.

Caregivers@Okta is a community that provides a support system and resources for all facets of family life from parent-to-be to a new parent to dealing with toddlers, tweens, teens, adult children, and aging parents.
Neurodiversity@Okta
Neurodiversity@Okta
The Neurodiversity ERG aims to increase awareness, knowledge, and positive change for current and future Oktanauts through seminars, town halls, focus groups, book clubs, informal discussions and more.
As an ERG we look to enable all Oktanauts to view neurodivergence as 'positively different'. Encompassing a spectrum of abilities, strengths and differences, many of which are ‘unseen’ as they relate to how individual brains function, neurodivergent identification can lead to conscious and unconscious bias due to lack of knowledge.
Examples of neurodiversity include Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, Tourette’s Syndrome, Color Blindness, OCD, PTSD and many others. As each has its own unique support community outside of Okta, and there is crossover support with other ERGs, we aim to be as inclusive as possible within the Oktanaut community.

Okta for Good
We strive to be a catalyst for those making change at the intersection of humanity and technology. By mobilizing our people, products, and dollars, we enable nonprofit digital transformation, empower more equitable communities, and develop ecosystems that drive long-term change for people and the planet.
Making a difference in your community
Making a difference in your community
We encourage you to donate your time and expertise to critical causes in your local community through these programs:
Volunteer time off (VTO)
Each fiscal year, you have four days (32 hours) of volunteer time off to dedicate to the nonprofit of your choice. Use all four at once, or split the hours across the entire year—it’s up to you!
New hire volunteering and giving program
Give back from day one. New Oktanauts receive a $10 giving credit in their Okta for Good Giving Portal to contribute to any of the millions of nonprofits around the world. Additionally, every quarter we host new hire virtual volunteer events for you to meet your fellow Oktanauts and learn how you can give back from your home, the office, anywhere!
Tech Pathways Week
A week dedicated to welcoming our workforce development nonprofit partners into our Okta community. Every year through Tech Pathways Week, our global teams—from San Jose to Sydney—host career panels, mentoring sessions, mock interviews, and more to expose students and job seekers from historically excluded communities to careers in tech.
Making a difference with technology
Making a difference with technology
Okta believes that mission-driven organizations can change our communities and our world. We help them do so in several ways:
Product licenses for nonprofits
Okta provides 50 free licenses for all workforce identity products and preferential pricing to qualified nonprofit organizations, making Okta’s technology more accessible to any organization whose mission is to help others. With Okta for Good, global nonprofits like Oxfam, PATH, Plan International, and Norwegian Refugee Council can focus on their important missions around the world.
Apps for Good
Through Okta’s Apps for Good program, our global customers can simply and securely deploy world-class “giving apps” to their workforces. These prebuilt, easily configured integrations, with top giving apps like Kiva, Benevity, and VolunteerMatch, make it easier than ever for companies and employees to donate time, money, expertise, and more.
ImpactCloud
Through ImpactCloud, Okta has joined forces with global humanitarian organizations and leading technology companies like Salesforce, Box, Splunk, Twilio, and others to support cross-cloud innovation in global crisis response.
Okta for Good Fund
Okta for Good Fund
The Okta for Good Fund enables Okta’s strategic charitable giving. The fund deploys grants with a focus on long-term commitments, sector-wide social innovation, and collaboration.
Following are our signature partnerships:
NetHope
NetHope is a global consortium of the world’s leading nonprofits focused on technology enablement and solutions.
Okta joined on as a founding partner of NetHope’s Center for the Digital Nonprofit, an effort to enable digital transformation for NGOs.
Fast Forward
The Fast Forward organization funds and supports nonprofit entrepreneurs building original tech for social impact.
Okta’s support aids Fast Forward’s efforts to support tech nonprofits in their direct programs and entrepreneurs across the broader tech nonprofit ecosystem.
TechSoup
TechSoup is a global network enabling more than one million nonprofit organizations to gain access to technology tools and resources.
Okta for Good co-invested in TechSoup’s digital transformation initiative along with VMware, Adobe, Cisco, and Box.
The grant is funding the creation of an IT assessment tool that will give nonprofit organizations an assessment of where they are and what steps or resources they can use to improve.
This is all in support of TechSoup’s longer-term goal of moving one million nonprofits to the cloud.
Tipping Point Community
This is a nonprofit that finds and funds the most effective programs and policies fighting poverty in the Bay Area.
In February 2019, Okta committed $500,000 to Tipping Point to address poverty and homelessness in the Bay Area.
ESG + sustainability
ESG + sustainability
Okta launched our ESG program in 2020 focused on nine key issues: security; data privacy; diversity, inclusion, and belonging; workforce development; ethical business practices; health, safety, and well-being; tech for good; digital divide; energy and climate.
Corporate climate commitments
We launched our first corporate climate commitments in 2021:
- We publicly committed to 100% renewable electricity for our global offices and remote workforce, and started to achieve this annually in 2022. We have also committed to setting science-based targets (SBTs) for absolute carbon emissions reductions. We are also connecting Sustainability to our Workplace, Health and Wellness, and Dynamic Work strategies by: (1) investing in energy-efficient buildings; (2) committing to building all new offices to both LEED Silver and WELL Silver standards; and (3) releasing the results of an independent study that projects a 21% reduction in Okta’s per-employee commuting emissions in FY23 versus pre-pandemic levels in FY20 due to reduced employee commuting and reduced workplace square footage per person.
- It was important that we go beyond addressing Okta’s own footprint and recognize the interconnectedness between environmental and social issues. Climate change disproportionately impacts historically marginalized communities. As first steps in ensuring equity has a place in our climate efforts, we purchase renewable energy certificates (RECs) that also have a social benefit, and Okta for Good supports organizations advancing climate justice, including GRID Alternatives and CLIMA Fund.

Trans and non-binary support at Okta
Trans and non-binary support at Okta
Okta takes steps to create and maintain an inclusive, nondiscriminatory workplace where team members can effectively and efficiently use their skills and experience.
Employees who transition on the job can expect the support of management and the People Team. All decisions about disclosing personal information are completely up to the individual. Should you want to share that information more broadly while working at Okta, our Trans & Non-Binary Inclusion Guide provides helpful information.
This guide was created to help foster dialogue and understanding of transgender issues in the workplace. It provides guidance for transitioning employees, colleagues, managers, and the People Team, and provides a starting point for building awareness around a topic that is still evolving in the workplace.
